PRELIMINARY NOTICE OF RACE

FINN NORTH AMERICAN MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIP

FAIRHOPE YACHT CLUB

March 4-7, 2009

 

1.     Rules

1.1     The regatta will be governed by the 2009-2012 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)  and the Sailing Instructions.

1.2    International Finn Association Class Rules will apply with the exception that electronic compasses may be used so long as the display shows no more than the heading (damping may be adjusted manually), heading ± a tacking angle (which may be adjusted manually), time, race timing information, adjustment and calibration information. Race timing information may be transmitted by sound A specific example of an acceptable electronic compass is the Tacktick Micro. This changes Class Rule C.5.1(B)(2).

1.3    No measurement will be performed by Fairhope Yacht Club although skippers may be asked to show compliance with all safety gear as required by US Coast Guard and Class rules.

2.     Advertising      Advertising will be restricted to Category C.

3.     Eligibility and Entry

3.1    Skippers who will achieve the age of 40 or better by 12/31/09 are eligible.

3.2   Competitors must arrange for the registered boat to be present at the event.

4.     Fees

The entry fee for this event is $175.00. A $15.00 early registration discount for paid registrations postmarked by January 31, 2009 reduces the fee to$160.00. U.S. Sailing members receive an additional $5.00 discount regardless of when registration is received. Entry fee includes welcome package, racing, on-the-water snacks and water, post-race libations, breakfast and dinner Wednesday – Saturday (3/4-7), social activities and awards banquet. Guests may purchase a ticket for these events at a cost of $100.00 (includes the above except racing, on-the-water provisions and welcome package).

5.     Registration and Schedule

5.1    Registration must be completed and received no later than 1100hrs, March 4, 2009.

Tuesday, March 3

1355hrs            Practice Race Warning

Wednesday, March 4

            0900-1100hrs   Registration

            1100hrs            Competitors’ Meeting

            1355hrs            First Warning Signal; two races are planned.

Thursday - Saturday, March 5-7

1100hrs            First Warning Signal;  two races are scheduled each day. Additional races may be run at the discretion of the Race Committee. On Saturday, no warning signal will be made after 1400hrs. 

      5.2 Number of races scheduled:     Eight

6.  Food and Social Activities

                Tuesday, March 3:        Libations and snacks following practice race(s)

                  Wednesday, March 4:   Continental breakfast, 0900-1030hrs

                                                      Libations and snacks following racing

                                                      Bar-b-que dinner – 1830hrs

                  Thursday, March 5:      Continental, 08300-0930hrs

                                                      Libations and snacks following racing

                                                      Dinner, 1900hrs  choice of prime rib, fish or chicken (Jubilee Room)

                  Friday, March 6:           Breakfast buffet, 0830-0930hrs

                                                      Libations and snacks following racing

                                                      Shrimp Creole, Jambalaya dinner, 1830hrs

                                                      Live Music, 1800-2100hrs, The Rochelle Harper Band

                  Saturday, March 7:       Breakfast buffet, 0830-0930hrs

                                                      Libations and snacks following racing

                                                      Awards Banquet 1800hrs (FYC Ballroom)

7.  Sailing Instructions The SIs will be available at registration.

8.  Scoring

8.1  The Low Point System of Appendix A will apply, except that the number of races completed to permit a throw-out shall be six (6). This changes RRS A2.

8.2 Three (3) races shall constitute a series.

9.  Trophies

Trophies will be awarded to the top five (5) finishers overall, the top competitor in age divisions (based on age at 12/31/09) of Grand Masters (50-59), Grand Grand Masters (60-69) and Legends (70+), as well as top vintage boat (combination of boat/mast to be determined).  Trophies may go deeper if participation warrants.

10. Housing

Limited housing is available on a first-option basis. Housing requests must be made no later than February 18, 2009. See Registration Form for housing request. Camping will be permitted on the south side of FYC property; accommodations can also be made for sleeping in The Boat Barn (heated & cooled; cot or inflatable mattress must be provided by competitor).
